Character Description
Duke is slightly taller than average. He keeps his dark brown hair down and (unfortunately for is schoolmates) usually unwashed. His eyes are a honey brown. He's unusually hairy for a teenager, having facial hair before most of his peers - albeit, soft peach hairs that barely amount to a mustache. He has a large mole under his right eye.
His head of hair is a significant part of his appearance, especially in relation to his identity has a self-proclaimed metalhead. He's more than proud of his head of hair and prefers to keep it down to show it off, but will begrudgingly put it up in a ponytail or bun for gym class.
To keep with Bullworth dress codes, Duke wears a non-clique gym shirt (yellow with a red silhouette of the mascot on the chest,) slim, acid-washed jeans, and black and white converse sneakers. Over his shirt, he wears a jean jacket that's had its sleeves ripped off. His fingernails are usually painted black, cobalt blue, or deep purple.
During the winter, Duke's outfit won't change much. Instead of his yellow gym shirt, he wears a grey Bullworth sweater under his jean vest, fingerless gloves, and a black, woolen toque.
Characteristics
Duke's most notable behavioural characteristic is that he has a relatively hard time controlling and expressing his emotions. It's not that he doesn't understand what emotions he has, it's just that he's highly sensitive to them. This usually results in him crying, whether he has reason to or not. Strong emotions, both positive and negative, leave him in tears. Very occasionally will he be able to harness an emotion like anger and use it to lash out at someone.
Because these emotions often get bottled up in some way and replaced with tears, Duke let's them all out through music. His preferred genre is metal and he, much to the dismay of the Boys' Dorm, plays the bass guitar and 'sings.' He is always at his worst before he plays, and he is always at his best and most stable shortly afterward. Music is his form of self-expression and how he vents.
Aside from his odd emotional quirks, Duke is usually a good kid. He tries not to get noticed, even though he makes that hard for himself, and he has no bid in the clique war. But he's something of a coward, and will try his best to save his own skin in any given situation. This usually involves being a pushover doormat.
Another prominent characteristic of Duke's is that he's... smelly. It's a mixture of teenage hormones, constantly running around campus, and not showering as often as most people would prefer. If someone smells B.O., Duke is likely to be near.
Strengths
Duke is incredibly musically inclined. He's particularly good with string instruments, but he also has some skill on the piano. He tries to sing, but he's not quite there yet, especially with his teenage voice cracks. He plays bass on his spare time, and took classes for piano when he was younger.
Physically, he's fit, and he can hold his own on a one-on-one fight if he needs to. He's not got a lot of weight behind his strikes, but he's somewhat fast, which can be brutal in close-quarters. Despite his strengths, he avoids fighting where possible even though he's capable of defending himself. He has a low pain tolerance and really doesn't like to get hurt.
He's also got a brain for math. He can easily run calculations in his mind without needing to rely on tools like calculators. When he's not doing his own homework or practicing the bass, he sometimes does other students' math homework - for a fee, of course. Usually, he offers to tutor first, but most students are just looking for him to do the math himself.
The classes Duke excels in most are Music, Math, Biology, Geography, and Drama.
Weaknesses
Duke is a bit of a coward when it comes to fights. He's also a bit of a snitch at times, which gets him into hot water. However, he's of the belief that, in Bullworth, it's every man for himself. As a result, he doesn't have many friends - but who does in that school? If you start a fight with Duke, he's more likely to run off and find a Prefect than to stay and fight you (though he will fight if he absolutely has too.)
As previously mentioned, Duke doesn't wash as often as most people would like. This is because he once heard that showering too much causes your hair to dry out and go frizzy. Instead of finding the healthy amount of times to shower within a week, he opts to shower as few times as possible in a month. This usually results in acne and a strong stench of B.O.
Duke is also a bit over emotional, and it can land him in vulnerable situations. He cries when he's happy, he cries when he's sad, he cries if he sees a dog that's a little too cute. While this isn't inherently a weakness, he does get picked on for it quite a bit.
The classes that Duke does the worst in are English, Art, Gym/Swimming, and Shop.
Social Standing
Duke's social standing isn't very high in Bullworth. He has a hard time finding and making friends, and is more or less just trying to skate through high school and into college at this point. He doesn't have a lot of friends, and he's sort of a loner. As one of, if not the only, metalhead in Bullworth, he doesn't feel that he has a lot in common with his peers.
On top of that, since he's a bit of a snitch, he's burned a few bridges with other students. Half of the school probably has a grudge against him for one reason or another. Even the Prefects tire of him at times.
Zoe Taylor and Jimmy Hopkins seem to be the ones who tolerate Duke the most. Zoe thinks he's a bit of a dweeb, but thinks his music is cool at least. Duke has a few other Townie friends, but no one who he can really call his 'best friend.' Aaron Glenn is the only other student who is cool with Duke, and Duke won't snitch on him in return.
Personal Life
Part-time Work
During some evenings and on weekends, Duke works at The Final Cut in New Coventry as a cashier. He is a big fan of the Bucket of Oysters, which play and practice in the store frequently.
Romantic Relationships
Duke has no romantic relationships to speak of. He does, however, have a slight interest in Zoe Taylor. He just thinks she's cool.
Familial Relationships and Background
Duke is very close to his family. He's close with his parents, who pick him up from school for every notable holiday and familial event that takes place. He's got a very average upbringing as well, with nothing in particular of note to touch on.
